Ex-Bungoma Governor Wangamati Grilled Over Sh70M Road Tender Scandal

By Edit One Kenya Newsroom  Former Bungoma Governor, Wycliffe Wangamati  Former Bungoma Governor Wycliffe Wangamati is under renewed scrutiny after he appeared before the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) on Friday to respond to allegations of misappropriation of public funds during his tenure. Wangamati, who served as Governor from 2017 to 2022, is accused of irregularly awarding Ksh.70 million worth of road construction tenders to companies allegedly linked to him and his five brothers. The tenders were reportedly issued between the 2017/18 and 2021/22 financial years. "My child was born healthy, after a month, the head started enlarging, we tried medication at my sister's place in Kisii at a level 6 hospital but after sometimes it became worse and we were transferred to Kijabe hospital. On reaching Kijabe, the doctors asked if I could manage Kshs 150,000/= for her surgery, I had nowhere to get the large sum required and I honestly told them I could not manage. The doctors then advised me to go and try find the money to get back my child for treatment. Benta organized for a WatsApp group funds mobilisation and we managed 20,000, I went back to Kijabe to plead with the doctors to take the money available and help rescue my child's condition but they said the money was so little for the services required.
