WETANG’ULA UNVEILS SH8 BILLION LEVEL SIX HOSPITAL PLAN FOR BUNGOMA IN HISTORIC AFDB DEAL

Moses Wetang'ula National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula has announced a landmark healthcare upgrade in Bungoma County, revealing that the African Development Bank (AfDB) will finance the construction of a Sh8 billion Level Six Referral and Teaching Hospital — a first for the entire Western Kenya region. Speaking at the Bungoma KMTC grounds, Wetang’ula emphasized that the project will not rely on national exchequer funds, adding that the AfDB has already deposited the full amount with the National Treasury, signaling the project’s green light from Cabinet. “This upgrade should not burden public coffers. The hospital will be fully funded by the African Development Bank,” said Wetang’ula. The new facility will provide specialized medical services, putting it on par with other premier national health facilities such as Kenyatta National Hospital and Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital.
