OPINION: Nzoia Sugar Is Not a Stage for Political Showmanship. It Is the Lifeblood of a People.

Image
EoK Editorial | Opinion  Another week, another political circus, this time in Western Kenya and it's Nzoia Sugar Company at the center of a storm, like always, the biggest losers are the very people politicians claim to be fighting for: the farmers, the workers, the families that have depended on this miller for generations. Leaders are shouting themselves hoarse some defending the leasing of Nzoia to billionaire Jaswant Rai, others threatening fire and brimstone if it goes through. Cameras are flashing, pressers are being called, and hashtags are trending. But beyond the noise, beyond the insults and manufactured outrage, there lies a quiet, painful question that no one dares to confront head-on: when will the people finally be heard? The people of Western Kenya, are not naive. We’ve seen this script before. We remember how PanPaper was auctioned off for a song under the guise of “revival.” We remember how promises turned into padlocks, how livelihoods became relics of a thriving ...

Controversy Erupts Over Bungoma Governor Lusaka's Madaraka Day Spending

Image
Bungoma County Governor Ken Lusaka is facing intense scrutiny from Hon. Julius Masinde over the reported 148 million Kenyan Shillings spent on the Madaraka Day celebrations hosted in Bungoma. According to Hon. Masinde, the expenditure is not only exorbitant but also raises significant accountability concerns. Hon. Masinde acknowledges the importance of preparing for the influx of visitors for such a national function, but he insists that the preparations should not have cost beyond 60 million KES. He claims that while the county government justifies some of the expenditure as necessary for completing the VIP section at Masinde Muliro Stadium, which can be accounted for, other costs are questionable. One of the most contentious expenditures is the 25 million KES reportedly spent on planting ornamental trees along the dual carriageway. Hon. Masinde, a regular user of the road, argues that there is little evidence of these trees.  " Apart from a small area from the Airstrip to Kanduy...

Raising the Bar, Bungoma's Call for Senate Reform

Image
Photo: Hon. Julius Masinde  In the political landscape of Bungoma County, a call for change echoes through the words of Hon. Julius Masinde, a former senatorial candidate and advocate for heightened senatorial standards. Masinde's recent expressions of disappointment towards the current senator shed light on the pressing need for enhanced representation in the Senate, urging the people of Bungoma to elevate their expectations and demand accountability from their elected officials. The heart of Masinde's concerns lies in the multifaceted role of the county senator and the perceived lack of engagement and effectiveness in fulfilling these responsibilities. He emphasizes the pivotal role of the senator in driving development initiatives, advocating for the needs of the county, and championing legislative reforms that directly impact the lives of Bungoma residents. However, Masinde laments the apparent disconnect between the current senator and these fundamental duties, highligh...

THE BID IS TOO LOW IN SENATE FOR BUNGOMA ~MASINDE

Image
From Wetangula's calibre to Wakoli's? Is it really pleasing so far? Hon. Julius Masinde, former senatorial candidate in December 2022's by-election is yet to see a justifiable reason of having a Senator in Bungoma. As it stands according to him, Bungoma is without a Senator and if there will exist one, it is after the 2027 general elections when He believes he will be matching into the Senate House as the elected senator for Bungoma. Masinde is disappointed not only to the fact that Bungoma electorates decided this way even when he believes there were better options but much more disappointed with Speaker Wetangula's decision of going to an extent of endorsing a non-perfomer and someone who he was aware for the fact he had worked so closely with him before that he would end up being lazy if not incompetent at work. He says it is a disgrace as a student not to perform upwards instead dig low. " Looking at it from where National Assembly Speaker had left, we are sink...
