Controversy Erupts Over Bungoma Governor Lusaka's Madaraka Day Spending

Image
Bungoma County Governor Ken Lusaka is facing intense scrutiny from Hon. Julius Masinde over the reported 148 million Kenyan Shillings spent on the Madaraka Day celebrations hosted in Bungoma. According to Hon. Masinde, the expenditure is not only exorbitant but also raises significant accountability concerns. Hon. Masinde acknowledges the importance of preparing for the influx of visitors for such a national function, but he insists that the preparations should not have cost beyond 60 million KES. He claims that while the county government justifies some of the expenditure as necessary for completing the VIP section at Masinde Muliro Stadium, which can be accounted for, other costs are questionable. One of the most contentious expenditures is the 25 million KES reportedly spent on planting ornamental trees along the dual carriageway. Hon. Masinde, a regular user of the road, argues that there is little evidence of these trees.  " Apart from a small area from the Airstrip to Kanduy

Photo courtesy: Hon. Michael Koloboy at a past event. It’s exactly a year & half since I gave my candid opinion when I was asked by a journalists on my arrival at JKIA & it has come to pass. The president has finally fired the entire cabinet. We expect more heads to roll & if need be dissolve parliament & call for a fresh election to redeem the country. In a significant move that has stirred the political landscape, the president yesterday decided to fire all Cabinet Secretaries, saving only the Prime Cabinet Secretary also the CS for Foreign & Diaspora affairs, Hon. Musalia Mudavadi, a decision that resonates with an opinion expressed a year ago by Hon. Michael Koloboy. Reflecting on the assembly of the cabinet that has been in place, Hon. Hon. Julius Masinde at a past event. In a powerful statement addressing the escalating unrest, Hon. Julius Masinde called for an immediate halt to the ongoing protests, citing severe infiltration by criminal elements and a consequent spike in looting and robbery. Masinde expressed deep concern over the inability of the police to effectively manage the situation, given their current restrictions on using water cannons and teargas, which he believes has left them virtually disarmed. "We cannot continue on this trajectory," Masinde asserted.  "The protests have been infiltrated by goons, yet police have been barred from using water and teargas. They are disarmed, and the result is looting and robbery. Only one thing is sensible to do now: #StopTheseProtests." Highlighting the destructive nature of the protests, Masinde stressed that while the grievances fueling the demonstrations are valid, they must be addressed through legal and orderly means.  "We cannot destro
