The senatorial by-election race in Bungoma gets more interesting every passing day with twists and turns as far as the race is concerned.

Yesterday on endorsing a Ford Kenya Party Candidate for the senate seat, there were claims made by one of the members of Parliament elected on a UDA Party ticket that UDA will be supporting a Ford Kenya candidate in the by-election.

However, the claims were swiftly dismissed by one of the UDA aspirants Hon. Walter Mukinginyi Trenk who termed the claims as wild and unfortunate.

Hon. Trenk said in a statement seen by our reliable source that the UDA party will be fielding a candidate in the by-election and that no relevant organ of the party has ever met to discuss the position taken by the said member of Parliament.

The position taken by the Kimilili Member of Parliament is a personal one and is against the party rules and the Kenyan law governing the conduct of members of Parliament in respect of supporting parties other than those that sponsored them to parliament.

About speculations on social media that there would be a meeting on Thursday to decide on the UDA candidate in the by-election, Hon. Trenk denied knowledge of the alleged meeting and informed our source that the party can not meet to discuss a matter that is already before a court of law. He however did not wish to elaborate on this statement.

Hon. Trenk further promised the UDA members in Bungoma that they have in him a champion and a defender of their political and democratic rights to elect a person of their choice and that it was not a mistake for them to have chosen UDA as their party.

He vowed that he will never let them down and that he will defend their membership rights to the very bitter end. He assured them that they will no longer be political orphans in Bungoma politics.

Asked whether he was certain about UDA fielding a candidate in the by-election, he responded that he had absolutely no doubt in his mind that the party will field a candidate and that indeed UDA will win the election.
