BUNGOMA SENATE RACE UPDATE! REASONS BEHIND LENDRIX WASWA'S PULLING OUT.

The twists and turns which have characterized the Bungoma Senate race scheduled for December 8th continued today when Lendrix Waswa, a Bungoma businessman, shelved his bid in support of the Ford Kenya candidate Hon. Wafula Wakoli.

Although Mr. Waswa did not give reasons for abandoning his bid, we have learned from reliable sources that it is because his search for a party to run on had hit a snag after it was discovered that the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties has locked up its system for six months after the last general elections to allow for election petitioners to refer to the unaltered system. Under the law, all petitions are supposed to be concluded within six months.

Lendrix therefore could not manage to sign out of Ford Kenya which had already settled on a candidate to join another party. He had to have an exit strategy. Ford Kenya came in handy and the Ford Kenya candidate stood by his side as he announced the abandonment of his ill-fated bid.

It is expected that Mwambu Mabonga will be the next Senatorial aspirant to shelve his bid due to the fact that he did not meet the IEBC timelines in submitting his application to the party. He has put on a brave face for the last few days but for all intents and purposes, his election bid went up in smoke on the 13th of October after his failure to meet the IEBC deadlines.

This leaves Walter Mukinginyi Trenk as the sole aspirant in UDA thus making him the automatic candidate for the party.

Other candidates in the race include Geoffrey Wanyonyi of NOPEU party, Julius Masinde ( Independent), Raidon Munoko (Independent) Enock Makokha (Independent).

In all probability, there will be less than six candidates in the Bungoma Senatorial by-election from the original list of 26.
