BUNGOMA SENATE RACE UPDATE. "SIKU YA NYANI KUFA..."

Immediate former Bumula Member of Parliament, Mwambu Mabonga.

The latest happenings in the Bungoma Senate race is that things have taken an interesting twist as the immediate former Bumula Member of Parliament Mr. Moses Mwambu Mabonga realized that he had lost the ticket to newcomer Walter Mukinginyi Trenk on a technicality.

Mr. Mabonga failed to submit his application as an aspirant to the party before the closing of the exercise on the 13th of October which had been set by the IEBC. Not to take a technical knockout lying down, and refusing to accept the fact that he had lost the opportunity to be the candidate on the party's ticket, the former legislator has been making frantic efforts to see the President Dr. William Ruto who is also the UDA party leader to intervene on his behalf. He has been entertaining hopes that the President will, based on their previous relationship, instruct the party officials to hand him the ticket.

However, going by the president's stand on justice and equal treatment of all party aspirants in the last general elections, it is unlikely that he will come to Mwambu's aid.

It is instructive to note that the president did not step in when his closest allies such as Charles Keter and Caleb Kositany were humiliated by political newcomers during the party primaries so will Mwambu Mabonga?

Mwambu's efforts to bag the ticket which is becoming increasingly elusive took him to Kericho Green Stadium where the president attended an interdenominational church service. In his company was Webuye West member of Parliament Hon. Dan Wanyama. They were however not able to get the president's attention as they were turned away by presidential aides.

As Mwambu's chances to fly the UDA flag in Bungoma becomes dimmer, he is becoming more desperate. Sources close to him have disclosed that after the failure to catch the president's eye in Kericho, he drove in the company of Hon. Dan Wanyama to Nairobi to start strategizing for another attempt to see the president for consideration either as a CAS or placement in the diplomatic service.

Meanwhile, all eyes in Bungoma are now riveted on Mr Trenk Mukinginyi on UDA and Mr. Wakoli on Ford Kenya.

The other candidates already cleared by their parties are; Robert Sifuna on Roots Party, Geoffrey Wanyonyi on NOPEU, Julius Masinde, Independent, Raidon Munoko, Independent.

It is so declassified...
