BUNGOMA SENATE RACE UPDATE! WHO IS THE UDA CANDIDATE?

It is now quite clear that UDA party will be fielding a candidate in the Bungoma Senatorial by-election scheduled for 8th of December after it emerged that they have planned for the official unveiling of the candidate at the party headquarters on Wednesday this week.

The officials at the Hustler Center remained tight-lipped about who the candidate might be. 

However our own investigations have revealed that it is likely to be one of the two individuals who had shown interest in flying the party flag, Hon. Moses Mwambu Mabonga, the immediate former Bumula Member of Parliament being one of them but a source who requested for anonymity made it clear that the Hon. Mabonga never submitted his application by the last day of the IEBC deadline which was on the 13th of October 2022. 

Hon Mabonga is also seen as a difficult sell to the Bungoma electorates having recently lost his bid for re-election in Bumula constituency as a member of National Assembly.

This leaves only one likely candidate Mr. Walter Trenk Mukinginyi, the Acting CEO at Cricket Kenya who, we have gathered from our sources, is the only one who did submit his application within the legal stipulated timelines. 

Mr. Trenk is also the Secretary General of Friends of Ruto Movement, a lobby group which campaigned for the election of President William Ruto and the UDA party.

The Simba Party, Ford Kenya seems to have settled on Wafula Wakoli, the former aide to the Speaker of the National Assembly Hon. Moses Wetang'ula as their flagbearer in the December race.

The Wafula Wamunyinyi-led DAP has been blowing hot and cold on whether they will be fielding a candidate or not. 

One of the DAP-K MCAs Hon. Tim Chikati of Soysambu/Mitua Ward, was seen recently in the company of his brother and Tongaren Member of Parliament Hon. John Chikati, endorsing the Ford Kenya candidate.

The party is said to be mulling over the prospect of throwing their weight behind the UDA candidate but are fearful of the likely condemnation from their Azimio partner the ODM who are said to be having a candidate in the by-election.

The real race will begin when UDA unveils their candidate. 

Plans are in high gear by one of the UDA aspirant's team for the official campaign launch in Bungoma in a fortnight.
