THE HOTCAKE! A GIRL TOTO, KIMILILI WARD ALREADY IN DALLIANCE, BUT WHAT IS IN THE KITCHEN COOKING?

 What You Need to Know:

  • Nekesa single handedly staged a high class football tournament in her home town in Kimilili in December 2023 that brought his name to the limelight.
  • She has been part of many community engagement and development programs especially in Kimilili Ward.
  • She says she has not declared interest in any political seat but will continue to support the community even if it means for politicians to take it political.

We got an opportunity to find our way into the kitchen and have a look at the meals as they were being prepared. The interest was to know how and when they will be ready to be served. Shockingly, the kitchen was full of plates and people had started taking their share little by little, Kimilili Ward has got a new cook and friend in a very young but promising girl child, named after a season of bumper harvest , Nekesa. Annabel is her first name, a total orphan who lost her parents in a very tragic road accident but took up their responsibilities which she seems to outdo most!

Few meters from Bahai market, on your way to Matili Technical Training Institute, branching right just after the Junction to Chelekei, we bumped into a happy looking Annabel Nekesa in her village attires, with around ten or so neighbors if our mathematics was wright chewing the local grown surgacane famously reffered to us “MIWA NGUMU.” Since we couldn’t want to disclose our identity, the camera was not an option to walk with and understanding her values, we couldn’t want to disrupt her good moments with her neighbors.

The welcoming was one of it’s own, we remained optimistic that our host knew who we are since such only happens to good and very close friends who have been part for a long time. To make it even open to us, the “area mukasa” knew us and she was amazed at seeing this untill she was forced to ask if we had met before. Surprisingly, She said a firm No while smiling. It is here that we got a chance to interact with the person whose name has become a hotcake in Kimilili, just to know a little bit of the reasons behind it.

From single handedly planning and holding a tournament in a ward of over 15 full football teams to supporting community projects , this was the right time to engage Annabel.

When asked about who she was, her age and why what she was doing, her body language spoke louder than the mouth could. She immediately wore a face that looked disturbed on why we should ask such questions like she’s not supposed to help but decided to answer anyway!

A.

Annabel Nekesa is a daughter to the people of Kimilili , early in her 20s and just passionate about leaving a positive mark in the hearts of the people.

Q. Are you interested in politics or why have you devoted so much back to the community? Any interets?

A.

"Who on this planet earth has no interests? I am a human too with interests but I don’t know why people like politics to a level that every good thing done to the community is forcibly related to politics. I have interests but not political interests, my interests lies in my hobby which is to do help whoever I can to the level I can attain what they deserve. If I were to do anything because of politics as of the later day style, I wouldn’t start lasting tournaments like what my people Kimilili Ward will be having year in year out to spot and nurture talents. I would rather call meetings and go to public places to start dishing out cash as of the later day politician..."

But for me, my interest in doing everything I do is not politics but if a time comes and the only option to help my people is through an elective leadership position, that is when we can discuss that. For now, I will go out of my way with as little as what I can manage to put a smile on people’s face."

Evident on her face was the passion in making it happen, Annabel feels for the very common and poor in Kimilili, the very talented but unrecognized, bright but poor as well the state of the local infrastructure that she yearns to try all means possible to see a turn around even if it means having her as the “mkono girl” to the house holds she can manage.

Avoiding the big question, she promised to be available to discuss what the people and especially politicians trembling and thinking that her actions are to compete them when time is ripe to do that. As for now, the welfare of the very deserving is key.

Leaving her with a famous Swahili saying, “LISEMWALO LIPO NA KAMA HALIPO LAJA” she nods as she promises to comprehensively discuss everything at its right time.
