Mumias East MP Peter Salasya was on Sunday evening caught in a chaotic moment at Nyayo Stadium, where he was attacked by a group of individuals during the Kenya vs Gabon World Cup qualifier match. The incident has sparked strong reactions from leaders, with Prime Cabinet Secretary Hon. Musalia Mudavadi and the Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K) condemning the act.

Mudavadi termed the attack "unfortunate," warning against political intolerance that threatens Kenya’s democratic foundation.

"Political intolerance undermines the very foundation of our democracy, which relies on the ability to engage with differing views," he stated. He emphasized the need for dialogue, unity, and mutual respect, adding, "Respect must be given, but it must also be earned. If we let division win, we risk tearing down everything we hope to build. A house divided cannot stand."

On its part, DAP-K, the party under which Salasya was elected, strongly condemned the incident, calling it a cowardly act orchestrated by "known party goons." The party stated,

"The attack on our legislator Peter Salasya by organized goons at Nyayo Stadium is very unfortunate, backward, and ill-intentioned. This will not stop the 'Must Go' stance or salvage the king of handshakes from the wrath of Kenyans."

The attack on Salasya comes amid heightened political tensions in the country, with rallies and public events becoming platforms for political expression. Leaders have continued to call for restraint, urging Kenyans to embrace peace and tolerance despite political differences.
