Pelosi and Warren Condemn President Trump's Pursuit of Unconstitutional Third Term

Washington, D.C. – In a bold challenge to President Donald Trump's recent assertions about seeking a third term, Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi and Senator Elizabeth Warren have voiced strong opposition, accusing the President of undermining the Constitution and neglecting the needs of American families.

President Trump, who was inaugurated for a second, non-consecutive term on January 20, 2025, has sparked controversy by suggesting he may pursue a third term, despite the 22nd Amendment's clear two-term limit.

Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) responded emphatically, stating;

"The president is not a king. The Constitution could not be clearer: No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice. Donald Trump would rather fantasize about a fictional third term than do anything to lower costs for working families."

Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi echoed these sentiments, criticizing the administration's economic policies:

"Donald Trump and Republicans said they’d lower costs—then moved to slash Medicaid, sabotage Social Security, and give tax breaks to billionaires. Rising prices are crushing Americans, and Republicans couldn’t care less. It’s not just bad policy—it’s a betrayal of working families."

These statements come amid escalating debates over the President's intentions. Reports indicate that Trump has expressed serious interest in exploring avenues to extend his presidency beyond the constitutionally mandated two terms.

Legal experts have weighed in on the controversy, emphasizing the constitutional barriers to a third term. The 22nd Amendment explicitly restricts individuals from being elected to the presidency more than twice, making any attempt to secure a third term a significant constitutional challenge.

As the nation grapples with economic challenges, including rising prices and debates over social safety nets, the focus on potential constitutional overreach has intensified. Democratic leaders like Pelosi and Warren are urging the administration to prioritize policies that address the immediate needs of working families over pursuits that could undermine democratic institutions.

The unfolding discourse sets the stage for a contentious political climate as both parties prepare for the upcoming electoral cycles, with the balance between constitutional adherence and policy priorities at the forefront of national debate.
