Dr. Miguna Miguna Declares: Fred Matiang’i Not Fit to Hold Public Office

Dr. Fred Matiang'i // Dr. Miguna Miguna

Nairobi, Kenya - In a scathing public statement, lawyer and former Nairobi gubernatorial aspirant Dr. Miguna Miguna has launched a blistering attack on former Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Okeng’o Matiang’i, accusing him of gross human rights violations, abuse of office, and contempt of court.

Miguna claims that on 2nd February 2018, Matiang’i blew up his house using explosives, and later subjected him to multiple abductions, illegal detentions, torture, and forced exile.

“Matiang’i abducted me, detained me incommunicado, and tortured me for 6 days in February 2018 and for 3 days in March 2018,” reads part of Miguna's public statement.

According to Dr. Miguna, Matiang’i not only confiscated his valid Kenyan passport but also punched holes through it, before injecting him with unknown substances, and flying him out of the country unconscious and without documentation, landing him in Dubai against his will.

“He physically assaulted me, injected me with poisonous substances and flew me unconscious to Dubai without a passport.”

Miguna further accuses the former CS of disobeying 35 valid court orders that sought to reinstate his citizenship, return his passport, facilitate his return to Kenya, and halt further violations of his rights. He states that Matiang’i went as far as ordering police to kill four young people who were peacefully protesting against his abduction and deportation.

In a landmark judgment on December 14, 2018, Justice Chacha Mwita ruled that Matiang’i had indeed abused his office, violated the Constitution, and ordered him to pay compensation. According to Miguna, this restitution has never been paid, and Matiang’i continues to enjoy impunity despite being convicted for contempt of court.

“Fred Okeng’o Matiang’i is NOT FIT to hold any public office,” Miguna declared.

This explosive exposé reopens a critical conversation about justice, rule of law, and the consequences of state impunity in Kenya. Miguna, who returned to Kenya in 2022 after forced exile, remains a vocal critic of both the current and former administrations.
