Vihiga Gubernatorial Hopeful, Kidake Maloba

VIHIGA COUNTY – Vihiga gubernatorial hopeful Kidake Alex Maloba has spoken out strongly on the recent controversy surrounding the play “Echoes of War” performed by students of Butere Girls High School, raising questions about the timing and motive of state interference in artistic expression.

“From my perspective, it's puzzling that the intelligence unit remained inactive during the play's performance at the sub-county level, only to intervene at the national level,” said Maloba. “This raises questions about their priorities and timing.”

Kidake expressed concern for the safety and emotional well-being of both the students and teachers involved, criticizing the lack of visible support from Luhya political leaders during the tense moment. He, however, praised former Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala for his courage and principled stand.

“I commend Cleophas Malala for his bravery in standing up against the challenges faced by the students. His determination to ensure the play is performed despite obstacles is commendable,” Kidake said.

In a bold message to President William Ruto, Maloba did not mince words. He accused the president’s camp of sidelining Malala despite his contributions to the UDA party and the Kenya Kwanza campaign in the Western region.

“My advice to the president is that you killed Malala's career with propaganda. He fought for you and gave you votes,” Maloba stated. “He’s not someone that can be ignored. He performed well as SG of UDA, and you kicked him out. Now there is no UDA, DAP-K is more popular and organized than UDA in Kenya today.”

Maloba urged the president to recognize Malala’s political value and mend broken bridges.

“Call him, ask for forgiveness, and award him with the CS for Sports. Malala has more votes in Western than Mudavadi,” he emphasized.

The gubernatorial hopeful called on leaders across the country to rally behind youth empowerment, freedom of expression, and education, saying political differences should never interfere with national unity or democratic freedoms.
