Wanjala Sakwa Blasts Rogue Cartels in Bold Defense of Matili TTI

Concerns are mounting in Kimilili Sub-county over what appears to be a coordinated effort by rogue cartels to cripple Matili Technical Training Institute (TTI) — one of the region’s most vital institutions for youth empowerment.

Wanjala Sakwa, Ford Kenya Party National Youth Co-ordinator,has sounded the alarm over an alleged scheme involving a contractor named Abdi, who was awarded a tender worth Ksh 29.3 million to construct a twin workshop — popularly referred to as the China Center — at the institution.

“The building was constructed using ordinary bricks. Anyone from Matili or Kimilili can confirm this,” Sakwa noted.

According to Sakwa, the initial cost of the project was dubiously inflated to Ksh 58.9 million through suspicious variations approved by the institute's former board, despite the visibly substandard materials used in the construction. It is alleged that the contractor was fully paid the inflated amount and has now returned, working with certain individuals to auction the institution under the pretext of unpaid variations.

“This is a blatant misuse of public funds and a direct attack on the future of our youth. These cartels must keep off Matili TTI,” Sakwa warned.

The fiery remarks were also delivered during an Easter Sunday service at Dinah Friends Church, Khamulati, where Sakwa was in the company of Kimilili MP aspirant, Hon. Fred Joshua Makokha. The two leaders expressed solidarity with the people of Kimilili, vowing to defend Matili TTI against corrupt schemes that threaten to undermine its progress.

“Matili TTI is the only economic pillar for our youth and the region at large,” Sakwa emphasized. “It is unacceptable that those who have already benefited are now scheming to bring it down.”

Sakwa further called out Ramagon Company, which is currently engaged in constructing the Kamukuywa Market, and challenged the contractor to serve the community ethically instead of “fighting the very institutions meant to uplift the people.”

The statement has sparked renewed calls for an audit of public infrastructure projects in the region and increased vigilance by citizens to safeguard institutions that are central to education, job creation, and socio-economic growth.
