Vihiga Woman Representative Hon. Beatrice Adagala today led a landmark County Empowerment and Funds Drive for Umbrella Groups, powered by the National Government Affirmative Action Fund (NGAAF), in a dynamic show of unity and development-focused leadership at Shamakhokho Secondary School.
The high-powered event attracted the presence of Kenya’s top leadership including Prime Cabinet Secretary Hon. Musalia W. Mudavadi, National Assembly Speaker Moses Masika Wetang’ula, National Assembly Majority Leader Hon. Kimani Ichung’wah, Presidential Personal Assistant Mr. Farouk Kibet, and several Members of Parliament drawn from Western Kenya and beyond.
Hon. Beatrice Adagala passionately articulated the purpose of the initiative:
“This drive is about unlocking the potential of our people—from women and youth to local businesses and community organizations. When we empower umbrella groups, we create a ripple effect across households, building resilience, promoting dignity, and laying the foundation for a self-reliant Vihiga.”
Through NGAAF, various women and youth umbrella groups in Vihiga received direct financial injections, equipment support, and strategic partnerships aimed at enhancing income-generating ventures including posho mills, rental unit construction, poultry and dairy farming, and agro-processing.
In a rare and symbolic political show of force and unity, Prime CS Musalia Mudavadi issued a resounding call to action:
“Speaker Wetang’ula and I are not in the business of lying to our people. We are committed to ensuring that the Luhya community remains firmly in government beyond 2027—but that can only be achieved if we rally behind President William Ruto’s leadership and development agenda.”
Mudavadi, while addressing decorum and national values, emphasized the centrality of institutions, saying:
“The Presidency is the single most vital institution under our Constitution. We must protect its dignity by embracing public service with humility, upholding the rule of law, and focusing on what truly matters—serving our people.”

Speaker Moses Wetang’ula, known for his sharp political insight, reiterated that the era of idle politicking must come to an end:
“Development is the new politics. What Hon. Adagala has done here is leadership in action—bringing resources home, touching lives directly, and showing others what people-centered service looks like.”
Majority Leader Hon. Kimani Ichung’wah praised the initiative, stating it aligns squarely with President Ruto’s Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA), and urged all legislators to replicate this module in their respective constituencies.
The event wasn’t just symbolic—it was practical. Dozens of women groups walked away with tangible support to scale their businesses. From dairy cooperative support to youth agribusiness funding, the day marked a powerful injection of economic energy into Vihiga County’s grassroots.
Among the groups supported were:
- Vihiga Women Poultry Cooperative
- Youth Digital Innovation Umbrella Group
- Luanda Women's Milling Association
- Horticulture Umbrella of Emuhaya
