In the countdown to the 2027 general election, Vihiga County is witnessing the zeal and consistency of a determined and pragmatic leader: Hon. Winnie Majani. Under the banner of her now-popular slogan #UsawaMashinani, Majani is redefining what it means to serve as a Woman Representative if given chance, focusing squarely on equity, access, and service.
A former banker with a sharp grasp of resource mobilization and economic planning, Majani is leveraging her expertise to craft a grassroots-centered campaign that aims to directly address the core constitutional functions of the Woman Representative's office to the benefit of the people, an office she yearns to occupy come 2027.
Among her top agenda items all aligned with Article 100 and Article 97(1)(c) of the Kenyan Constitution — include:
Championing legislation and policy that promotes the rights and inclusion of women, youth, and marginalized groups.
Launching ward-based initiatives to support women and youth through the National Government Affirmative Action Fund (NGAAF), focusing on economic empowerment, health, and education.
Advocating for gender-responsive budgeting, ensuring equitable allocation of national resources for programs that benefit vulnerable populations.
Promoting access to reproductive health services, menstrual hygiene education, and gender-based violence prevention programs.
Strengthening partnerships with civil society and institutions to scale up mentorship, bursaries, and grassroots development projects in all five sub-counties of Vihiga.

Speaking during a recent forum in Hamisi, Majani said:
“The Woman Representative’s office is not ceremonial. It is a constitutional tool meant to bridge historical gaps in representation. Through #UsawaMashinani, I seek to make this office visible, accessible, and impactful in every village.”
Already, her community engagements are gaining traction. From supporting women groups in Luanda to mentoring teenage mothers in Emuhaya, Majani is laying the groundwork for a people-driven, village grounded campaign that speaks directly to the needs of Vihiga’s population.
Her brand of leadership, consultative, structured, and equity-focused is attracting growing support across generations. As 2027 draws nearer, #UsawaMashinani may well become not just a slogan, but a movement that reshapes how Vihiga measures leadership.
