Hon. Grace Sundukwa

Sitikho Ward MCA , Hon. Grace Sundukwa has declared her intention to vie for the Bungoma County Woman Representative seat in 2027, promising to return the office to its original mission of serving and empowering women and youth.

Born and raised in Ngwelo village, deep in Sitikho Ward, Sundukwa’s leadership journey reflects resilience and a deep-rooted connection with her community. A teacher by profession and a seasoned grassroots mobilizer, she is widely known for her hands-on approach visible throughout her tenure as MCA — often walking from village to village to listen to residents' concerns directly.

Sundukwa criticized what she described as the loss of purpose within the Woman Representative office, accusing the incumbent and those who held it before of using the seat for personal gain rather than community empowerment.

“This seat was designed to uplift women and marginalized groups, not to serve as a personal political ladder,” Sundukwa said. “I have seen how other counties have benefited from visionary women leaders. We can do the same here in Bungoma.”

If elected, Sundukwa plans to channel the National Government Affirmative Action Fund (NGAAF) into impactful projects, including economic empowerment for women’s groups, scholarships and mentorship programs for girls, and support for small-scale women farmers.

She emphasized that Bungoma’s women and youth have been sidelined for too long and promised a leadership style grounded in accountability and transparency.

Political analysts see Sundukwa’s candidature as a major shake-up in Bungoma’s 2027 politics, with expectations that she will appeal to voters seeking a shift from traditional, personality-driven politics to results-focused leadership.

Sundukwa has also hinted at forging networks with like-minded women leaders across the country to share ideas and replicate best practices, ensuring Bungoma does not lag behind in women’s empowerment.

Her supporters believe she represents a refreshing alternative and a chance to reclaim the seat for the people of Bungoma.

As the county gears up for the next general election, all eyes will be on how Sundukwa’s grassroots popularity and proven record of service influence the dynamics of the Woman Representative race.
