Presidential Candidate, PK. Salasya Blasts Natembeya Over “Selfish Tribal Politics,” Urges Focus on Jobs and Youth Empowerment

Presidential candidate and Mumias East MP Peter Salasya has launched a scathing attack on Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya, all elected on a DAP-K party ticket, accusing him of advancing politics driven by personal interest and tribal cards rather than addressing pressing economic challenges facing his county.

In a strongly worded statement, Salasya expressed disappointment in Natembeya, whom he described as a friend, for prioritizing divisive rhetoric over real development.

“My brother, you are the governor of Trans Nzoia, and Kitale town alone is bleeding with jobless youths at Matisi. What have you done to create job opportunities other than employing goons in town?” Salasya posed.

The outspoken legislator challenged Natembeya to account for the number of graduates he has helped secure jobs, the cottage industries he has established, and the meaningful sports infrastructure he has developed to uplift the county’s youth.

“Sports is a devolved function. How many football academies have you set up, yet Kitale is home to football champions like St Joseph’s and St Anthony’s? How many stadiums have you improved?” Salasya asked.

He further criticized Natembeya’s alleged profiling of other communities in national politics, arguing that such narratives undermine unity and perpetuate historical injustices.

“We must be realistic. We as a community have not always embraced education fully, and you cannot expect a watchman or maid to become a CS overnight. We want a country where opportunities are shared equally based on competence,” Salasya said.

Salasya emphasized that his remarks were not meant to pick a fight but to offer constructive criticism and defend the vision of a united, inclusive Kenya.

“I don’t do local politics of Western. I am a national leader, and I believe in politics of development, not cheap tribal propaganda,” he concluded.

The remarks by Salasya are expected to ignite heated debate, especially as both leaders gear up for higher political stakes in the coming years with the DAP-K Party seemingly nearing it's dead end, a party under Eugene Wamalwa.
