Immediately after President William Ruto was sworn in, he ramped up the engine of governance in Kenya. Dr. Ruto is in haste to give the giant of East Africa's Economic and Technological hub a new lease of life.
In public and in small group chitchats, the talk now is how the President has been performing wonders to the surprise of many. Here I outline eleven talking points on the lips of many Kenyans.
1. Digitization of Government Services Kenyans can now access over 5,000 Government Services through a transformative e-Citizen portal. With a computer, mobile phone, and internet access, you can access Services such as applying for a driving license, a tax declaration, electronic health records, immigration services, birth certificates, parking fees, and obtaining other crucial documents at the touch of a button.
2. KES 50 billion Hustler Fund
The Hustler Fund is a major boost to financial inclusion and the empowerment of the majority of Kenyans to access credit. Through thisinnovative and revolutionary Hustler Fund, jua kali artisans, boda boda operators, roadside traders, chamas, associations, and Saccos can access affordable funds without any collateral to support their businesses.
3. Hired over 55,000 Teachers.
When President William Ruto took over office, TSC had a severe teacher shortage of 114,581 in both primary and secondary schools. Ruto immediately sprung into action, and in a span of 8 months, the KK administration has hired over 55,000. These efforts are tailored to address the teacher-student ratio.
4. Fertilizer SUBSIDy program
In an effort to combat food insecurity, President William Ruto introduced the fertilizer SUBSIDy program, aimed at helping farmers access fertilizer at a lower price. Under this program, the cost of fertilizer was reduced from Ksh6,000 per 50-kg bag to Ksh3,500, currently Ksh2,500. Major step towards the realization of food security.
5. Timely Disbursement of all monies due to the county government
Since the advent of devolution, it was under President William Ruto that we saw the National Treasury comply with the law by releasing all the monies due to the County Governments. Major developments towards strengthening devolution.
6. Exemption of VAT on LPG
In efforts to reduce the cost of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and make it affordable, reduce the use of biomass fuel, and destroy our forests, President William Ruto exempted LPG from VAT. The impact of this policy has already been felt, as the cost of refilling gas cylinders has been drastically reduced.
7. Granting Financial autonomy to the judiciary
By granting financial autonomy to the Judiciary, this gives judges the power to be impartial in handling cases that involve the executive. Judges are free to carry out their responsibilities without fear or favor. Justice is no longer for the highest bidder.
8. Reverted Port operations from Nairobi and Naivasha dry ports to Mombasa.
Since this directive, small towns along the way have regained business activity as more trucks roared back following the order that cargo clearance be done in Mombasa. Thousands of people who had Los jobs have been smiling all along.
9. Appointed six judges.
Upon assumption of office, President William Ruto appointed and oversaw the swearing in of the six judges who had been rejected by Uhuru Kenyatta.
10. Removal of Subsidiaries
Removing subsidies was a major step towards addressing corruption. Subsidies were benefiting a few individuals at the expense of Kenyans. Some individuals stupendously became rich without industry. With the removal of SUBSIDIES, there's a resource balance that benefits the majority of the populace.
11. President Ruto signed an Executive Order giving the National Police Service financial autonomy.
This implied that the police can't depend on the office of the president financially; they can't serve at the Mercy of the president.
