WHICH WAY, MULEMBE? WHO BEWITCHED YOU?
( EoK Editorial )
Behaving like the later-day Galatians, power has taken root deep within those who are meant to unite the community, and the cycle of disunity is evident in the second most populous community in Kenya. Everyone now seems to vie for superiority over one another. Who bewitched you?
In the past, disunity was evident, later, unity prevailed, exemplified by the Bukusu (Wetangula) and the Maragoli (Mudavadi), who found common purpose yielding fruitful results. Yet now, issues that should bound the community together are addressed through public confrontations, igniting violence and discord within the larger Mulembe community. It's now Trans-Nzoia Governor George Natembeya against National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula, with no resolution in sight, only further division. Who bewitched you?
Governor Natembeya, while it's important to voice your opinions, resorting to violence only exacerbates the situation. Perhaps it's better to remain silent than to contribute to further unrest. If existing mechanisms have failed to promote peace, it's time to explore better alternatives. Who bewitched you?
Speaker Moses Wetangula, your duty transcends your governmental position; it's about understanding the sentiments of your people. You cannot foster national unity when your own community is in turmoil. Engaging in conflict with your own kin achieves nothing but harm, particularly to the youth. Who bewitched you?
Confronting each other with hostility while ignoring unresolved issues, only to lament the consequences on social media later, reflects a failure of leadership. You both knew the risks, yet chose confrontation over reconciliation. Who bewitched you?
While other tribes work towards a brighter future, the Mulembe community seems perennially divided, with no one willing to bridge the divide. Who bewitched you?
Where is COTU SG Francis Atwoli? Does your voice only emerge when it suits your interests, particularly your political agenda?
And Prime CS Musalia Mudavadi, are national duties overshadowing the needs of your own community?
What about DAP-K party leader Eugene Wamalwa? Are you unable to sway your party members to heed your guidance?
To the Mulembe youths, it's time for a turnaround. You shouldn't always be the ones to rally behind both the good and the bad. Refrain from inciting violence; meaningful employment won't materialize if you're always the first to throw stones.
