The Voice of Reason: "Consider Mental Health Matters" - Kiige.

From the rising cases of suicides, people giving up on life for various reasons, and individuals living in hopelessness, Tendai Organization and its partners decided to raise awareness for mental health by organizing a walk in Karatina Town.

Former Mathira Parliamentary Candidate in the 2022 general elections, Hon. Daniel Kiige emphasized the importance of maintaining mental well-being, especially during these challenging economic times.

The walk began at the stadium, traversed through Jambo, passed the trade center, entered TG, the second-largest market in Africa - Karatina Market, proceeded to Mtumba, and concluded at Marigiti. The primary motivation behind the initiative was to address the alarming trend of people succumbing to despair and resorting to suicide, whether by hanging, poisoning, or drowning.

The objective of the walk was to instill hope within the community, reminding them not to give up and encouraging individuals to seek support from professionals and trusted friends during difficult times.

Accompanying the envoy were enthusiastic youths and elders, all united in their belief that stress, depression, and suicide should be destigmatized.

Following the walk, participants underwent blood pressure checks and screenings. Those experiencing stress or depression received counseling from a team of professionals, including doctors, nurses, UHP counselors, and psychiatrists who partnered in the initiative.

Hon. Kiige urged both the county and national governments to prioritize mental health matters, emphasizing the need for proper allocation and disbursement of resources. He highlighted the significant increase in the prevalence of mental illness, from 14.6% to 26.1%, and stressed the financial repercussions of neglecting mental health funding.

In conclusion, it's imperative that authorities address mental health concerns with the seriousness they deserve to prevent further loss of life.
